Dit Da Jow Overview

PURITY—All our dit da jow/topical analgesic formulas are pure and 100% natural whole herbs aged in an alcohol-based solution.

  • Most dit da jow is made with cheap skin-irritant rubbing alcohol, or store-bought Vodka containing artificial flavoring and impurities that decrease jow purity. Plum Dragon Herbs’ dit da jow is made with the proper proof pharmaceutical-grade neutral grain spirits, independently certified to meet stringent US Pharmacopeia standards: What you buy is pure, potent and NATURAL!
  • Other products are made, stored and bottled in cheap plastic. Dit da jow solvent dissolves fragile plastic over time, polluting the liniment with toxic material! Plum Dragon Herb’s dit da jow is mixed, aged and bottled in glass to protect the purity of the formula and, most importantly, your health.

AGING—Many products on the market are only aged long enough to make usable. Plum Dragon Herbs’ dit da jow products are aged to maximum effectiveness in dark, climate controlled environments. Bottles have hand written dates designating when your jow was made. And because we bottle it on a “per-order” basis, batches keep aging beyond the formal aging process. Between underkill and overkill – We choose overkill!

APPLICATION—These replenishing, plant-derived analgesic formulas can be externally applied to the body to provide pain relief and nourishment. They are NOT designed for consumption. Do NOT ingest. Do not apply to open wounds or cuts, scrapes, broken skin, eyes or mouth at any time.

Why aren’t your products organic?
Quality and consistency are of utmost importance to us. Many of our customers craft new products from our raw ingredients and we strive to be able to provide them with as reliable a source for quality botanicals as possible so they can do so.

We are constantly looking for new farms that can meet our high standards and are happy that many very professional operations around the world are moving toward more sustainable methods. However, it is important to understand that most medicinal herbs grown worldwide are not grown within the strict guidelines that we would call “organic.” Many herbs grow wild in their indigenous habitat and are picked by local harvesters (vast wild areas of China are reserved by the Chinese government for this purpose). Even in USA, there are many wild-crafters, but few organic medicinal herb farms. So, although it remains impossible for now for us to make organic dit da jow (as there are so many herbs in each formula and we cannot source them all organically), we are still able to find very high quality, high purity products to serve you with.

Bulk Herbs Overview

PURITY & QUALITY— We stock the freshest, highest quality herbs for our dit da jow formulas and our whole herb customers. Sourced indigenously, our bulk herbs are geo-authentic are sulfur-free. We have wild-crafted herbs and herbs that have been lab-tested for potency and purity (COA). Wild crafted herbs are collected in their wild habitat, while leaving enough plant material so as to not compromise the abundance of the mother plant.

LAB TESTED HERBS—We stock and use lab-tested herbs whenever possible. If you require a certificate of analysis (COA) for your herbs, please inquire via email as to whether the current stock has a COA available. If not, we can usually get what you need if you let us know approximately 2 weeks in advance.

HERB GRINDING SERVICE—We offer you the service of grinding bulk herbs. This can be done for a maximum of 1 lb. of each herb ordered. Herb grinding produces a coarsely ground end product. In some cases, we are able to finely grind the product, but such must be specified or individually requested. Finely ground herbs ARE NOT POWDERED HERBS. The result is more akin to rough sand with bits of larger chunks in it.

POWDERED HERBS—We do not stock powdered herbs, but we can custom order just about any powdered herb you may need in minimum 1 lb. quantities. Please inquire via email and please allow approximately 2 weeks for delivery of customer order herbs.

HERBAL EXTRACTS— We do not stock powdered herbs, but we can custom order just about any powdered herb you may need in minimum 1 lb. quantities. Please inquire via email and please allow approximately 2 weeks for delivery of customer order herbs.

RARE HERBS—We are almost always able to find anything you are looking for even if you don’t find it on our website. If you need a specific herb that you can’t find, just ask us for it. We have an extensive network of incredible suppliers around the world who rarely fail us in sourcing what our customers need.

LARGE ORDERS, 100+ lbs.—Additionally, we do offer significant price breaks on 100 pounds or more of a single item.

Please email for quotes.

Do you offer information on how to take herbs?
We are prohibited by law from dispensing any advice on taking herbs as supplements or to help with any ailments. Please remember that natural herbs can be very powerful and we always suggest that you consult with a professional.

Teas Overview

BLACK TEA: Black tea is the most oxidized of all the teas, providing its deep color, rich flavor and high caffeine content.

OOLONG TEA: A traditional Chinese tea with medium oxidation, Oolong’s color and flavor fall between those of black and green tea.

GREEN TEA: Green tea is processed just after plucking, which minimizes oxidation and delivers a pale green color and distinct earthy flavor.

WHITE TEA: Derived from the young tea plant buds, white tea is the least processed giving it light color, sweet flavor and plenty of antioxidants.

HERBALS: These soothing caffeine-free teas are made from various blends of flowers, roots, fruits, leaves or seeds, and are often used for wellness purposes.

Storage

Herbs & Teas: A cool, dry, dark place is the best way to store dried herbs and teas. A well-sealed bag or glass jar in your kitchen cabinet will work fine. Dried fruits and berries contain more moisture than dried roots, barks and seeds, so you may wish to store these items (such as Da Zao (dates), Elderberries, and Gou Qi Zi (Goji berries), etc. in a refrigerated environment to prevent mold/mildew growth.

Dit Da Jow: Keep well-sealed and out of sunlight.

CHANGING YOUR ORDER—We are unable to change your order after it has been completed. Cancelling and resubmitting a new order incurs extra costs from the credit card vendors. Please be sure that your order and your shipping information is correct before you complete it. Thank you.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES—This is usually a result of what is called an “AVS Mismatch”. AVS is the Address Verification System used by most online credit card processing systems. When an AVS mismatch occurs (a mismatch between the customer billing address on the order and the billing address on file in the AVS system) the customer’s transaction will be declined. This decline will result in a hold on the funds which will actually look like a charge. It is not a charge and this will be removed by the banks within 48 hours. We often receive requests to call the bank to ask that this be removed immediately. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do. This problem can be avoided by making sure that your billing address is exactly as it is on your credit card statement.

Shipping – General Overview

SHIPPING TIMING—We typically ship orders of in-stock item within 48 hours of order placement from our Chester, MD warehouse M-F. (We are closed on weekends and do not ship on Saturdays). However, whole herbs stock levels can fluctuate dramatically as we can receive very large unexpected orders that wipe out all of our stock of a particular item. It is best to allow up to 2 weeks for whole herb shipping, even though most orders will still be shipped within that general 48 hours shipping window.

SHIPPING RATES—We ship via USPS. Their shipping rates are calculated via the destination zip code and the total weight of your shipment. One easy way to get an estimate is to use our online shopping cart. Add the items you wish to purchase to your cart, proceed to checkout, select the shipping method, and you will then see the shipping rate. This can all be done before you confirm and pay for the order.

Over the years we have resisted the vogue practice of raising our product prices to subsidize our shipping rates so as to make them more attractive. We are however continually working to find new ways to ship items to our customers as cost-effectively as possible without affecting our low product prices.

international shipping

We make our very best efforts to work with customers all round the world.

RESTRICTIONS: If you are requesting shipping outside of the USA, please check with your country’s customs agencies to ensure that the product you are purchasing is allowed to be imported. PLEASE NOTE: Plum Dragon Herbs is not responsible for items rejected from import.

ADDITIONAL FEES: Please be aware that there are often brokerage, duty fees, or surcharges on items passing through customs of certain countries. These fees have not been included in our shipping charges. PLEASE NOTE: Plum Dragon Herbs is not responsible for any fees your package occurs on entry to your country.

Preparation & Usage instructions

PRE-AGED DIT DA JOW (TOPICAL ANALGESIC FORMULAS)

Below are some pointers that will help ensure your dit da jow maintains potency and help you maximize its effectiveness:

  • A fine herbal sediment should be visible on the bottom of your bottle of dit da jow. Before each use, make sure to shake up your dit da jow to place this herbal sediment into suspension.
  • Store in a dark place at room temperature. Some ingredients can break down with excessive exposure to UV light or extreme temperatures. Shake before use.
  • Use your dropper to liberally apply jow into your palm. Place your palm over the desired area and massage the liquid into the skin. New injury favors light consistent massage. Old injuries respond favorably with a deeper, harder massage. Repeat 2-3 times daily for best results.
  • For conditioning such as athletic training, impact training, iron palm or limb knocking, applying before *and* after your workout can help stop bruising from occurring. To safely perform iron palm exercises, please use Plum Dragon’s Iron Palm dit da jow formulas.
  • Use your dit da jow to help aid in the recovery of bone, muscle, and tissue bruises, soreness, joint and tendon pain/swelling, muscle spasms, relief of pain and inflammation, and in the healing process and immune system response of bone, muscle, joints, and tendon.
  • Dit da jow is for EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Do NOT apply dit da jow to any mucous membrane such as the mouth, ears, or nose. Do NOT apply to cuts or scrapes. Do NOT use this product of you are pregnant or nursing.

PLUM DRAGON DIT DA JOW HERB PACKS

Below are directions for brewing your dit da jow herb pack at home, as well as some pointers for best practices for optimal results:

  • Open bag and empty the herbs into a 1-gallon (or larger) GLASS container.  Plum Dragon’s herb packs come pre-prepared—necessary grinding, crushing, processing, frying, etc. is already done for you. Feel free to break the herbs up further, but NEVER powder the herbs beyond the state they are in.
  • Fill your container with vodka, rum, brandy, rice wine, or a 50/50 mix of Everclear and spring water.
  • Store the container in a dark place at room temperature as some ingredients can break down with excessive exposure to light or extreme temperatures.  Shake your jar occasionally.
  • The herbs will have soaked up some of the liquid after approximately 24 hours and the level of liquid will be lower.  Feel free to top off your 1-gallon jar with either alcohol or spring water and reseal.
  • You should allow a minimum of 3 months for the aging process, and we recommend at least 6 months to reach full medicinal potency.  We also recommend that you do not strain off the herbs at that time, but leave them in the jar with the remaining liquid to continue aging until all the liquid has been used.
  • After aging, liberally apply the dit da jow jow into your palm (you may wish to purchase a dropper bottle to use to dispense the liniment or to carry with you).
  • Dit da jow is for EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Do NOT apply dit da jow to any mucous membrane such as the mouth, ears, or nose. Do NOT apply to cuts or scrapes. Do NOT use this product of you are pregnant or nursing.

INTERNAL TONIC HERB PACKS & CHUN JIU (SPRING WINE)

Below are directions for brewing your internal tonic or spring wine herb packs, as well as some pointers for best practices for optimal results:

  • Open bag and empty the herbs into a 1-gallon (or larger) GLASS container.  Plum Dragon’s herb packs come pre-prepared—all necessary grinding, crushing, processing, frying, etc. is already done for you.  Internal tonics should come to you in a roughly ground state.
  • Fill your container with vodka, whisky, brandy, rice wine, or a 50/50 mix of everclear and spring water. We prefer making this wine with slightly lower alcohol content than dit da jow, so feel free to cut your alcohol between 30-40%.
  • Store the container in a dark place at room temperature as some ingredients can break down with excessive exposure to light or extreme temperatures.  Shake your jar occasionally.
  • The herbs will have soaked up some of the liquid after approximately 24 hours, and the level of the liquid will be lower.  Feel free to top off your 1-gallon jar with spring water and reseal.
  • You should allow a very minimum of 3 months for the aging process—traditionally, these tonics are made one year and consumer the next.  We also recommend that you do not strain off the herbs at that time, but leave them in the jar to continue aging with the rest of the liquid until it is all consumed.
  • Internal tonics are traditionally consumed in 1 oz. quantities on cool evenings, or, alternatively, every evening during intense training.  Some people like to take Spring Wine every day, all year, while others prefer to take it a few times per week only during the Spring months.  With use, you can determine what is best for you and your body.
  • If you are sick (viral or bacterial infections such as flu, common cold, strep, etc.) do not use internal tonics until you are healthy again.  Pregnant and nursing women should not use these products.
  • We make no claims about these products’ potential interactions with medications or with diet and recommend you seek the advise of a qualified medical practitioner if you have any questions relating to these types of interactions. Please see conditions of use.

PLUM DRAGON CHAI TRAINING TEA

The tea should be placed in a small amount of water (the herbs in the Plum Dragon Chai Training Tea Kit are already crushed/ground for you). This water should make up half of the volume of total tea. Bring to a near-boil, and then simmer for 10 minutes.  Add an equal amount of milk and allow to re-simmer. Add tea leaves and allow to steam for another 5 minutes.  Strain off the herbs, and add a small amount of vanilla and honey to taste.

This tea tastes wonderful and has an almost numbing property, making it great for sore throat due to cold invasion (note: Do *NOT* use this tea for sore throat due to heat conditions such as strep throat or flu).

Adding Hong Hua to this recipe is a good addition for many reasons, but it will disrupt the flavor of the tea. Try it both ways and decide which you like best. A pinch of pepper is common in commercial mixtures of Chai Tea, as are small amounts of Star Anise, citrus, and other spicy items. Lastly, a couple of pods of Bai Dou Kou have been helpful for some students who have been bogged down in the heat by heavy tonics such as Spring Wine.

FLEXIBILI-TEA

Flexibili-Tea Pack is made as tea. For tea, add 1 pack to as much as 1 gallon of water (less water produces a smaller amount of stronger tea). Bring to a boil, then simmer for 40 minutes and strain the herbs. Store the tea in the refrigerator and drink 1/2 cup 2-3 times per day. You may add a small amount of honey for flavor.

This product is sold as 2 separate packs of herbs, which will last approximately 20 days if used at the rate given above. The 2 Flexibili-Tea packs will be packaged in a single bag.

SUPER ANTIOXIDANT LONGEVI-TEA

Combine one 5 oz. packet of herbs in non-metallic pot with 8-10 cups of water (more water can always be added if a less strong tea is desired).  Cover, simmer, and decoct for a minimum of one hour.  Strain and enjoy.Store the tea in the refrigerator and drink 1/2 cup 2-3 times per day. Add local or manuka honey if desired for taste and added health benefits.

This product is sold as 2 separate packs of herbs, which will last approximately 20 days if used at the rate given above. The 2 Longevi-Tea packs will be packaged in a single bag.

REISHI-GREEN CHAI TRAINING TEA

Bring 8 to 10 cups of water to boil, then add Reishi and spices from one 5 oz. packet.  Turn off the heat, cover and decoct for 15-30 mins.  (This tea will become stronger, but also more bitter if left to steep).

Strain add milk, almond milk, rice milk, etc. and enjoy! Or, add a bit of ghee, coconut oil or grass fed butter to increase intake of healthy fats and add a creamy texture. You may also add a small amount of honey for flavor.  Store the tea in the refrigerator and drink 1/2 cup 2-3 times per day. Simply reheat as needed.

This product is sold as 2 separate packs of herbs, which will last approximately 20 days if used at the rate given above. The 2 tea packs will be packaged in a single bag.

Other great additions to this recipe are Burdock, Huang Qi (Astragalus), and Shan Zha (Hawthorn Berries).

REISHI & ASTRAGALUS IMMUNI-TEA

Put all herbs from one 5 oz. packet in a non-metallic pot with about 8 – 10 cups of water and cover.  Simmer for 30 minutes to one hour on the stove.  Longer simmering time will make a stronger tea (you may want to check for taste at different intervals to find the most palatable steeping time for your individual tastes). Strain. Add milk, almond milk, rice milk, etc. and enjoy! Store the tea in the refrigerator and drink 1/2 cup 2-3 times per day. Simply reheat as needed. You may add a small amount of honey for flavor.

This product is sold as 2 separate packs of herbs, which will last approximately 20 days if used at the rate given above. The 2 Reishi & Astragalus Chai Training Tea packs will be packaged in a single bag.

SI WU TANG & SI JUN ZI TANG

To prepare, pour the ground Chinese herbs into a non-metallic pot with up to 1 gallon of water (less water produces a smaller amount of stronger tea). Bring to a boil, simmer for 40 minutes, and then strain the herbs. Store the tea in the refrigerator and drink 1/2 cup 2 times per day between meals. You can also add a small amount of honey to increase the tonic properties of the decoction, as well as for flavor. Alternatively, herbs can also be ground/crushed and added to honey to make small pills, which are then baked in the oven.

This product will last approximately 14 days. Prepare 1 bag during times of strenuous activity.

POWDERED CHINESE HERB FORMULAS

Short-lived but intense issues: 1 teaspoon (8 capsules), three times daily.

Lingering low-grade concerns: 1/2 teaspoon (4 capsules), 2 times daily.

The above guidelines represent the usual doses. If you don’t much care for reading or thinking too much about it, you’re done. If you want to fine tune things a bit, keep reading.

If you are very sensitive to medicines: start out low (1/4 tsp or 2 capsules) once per day, and raise the dosage each day. When you get to the point where your concerns are being addressed, you’re good, you don’t have to go any higher than that. This advice is especially useful for those who are taking herbs for something that is induced or aggravated by stress.

If you are heavier than 200 pounds (90 kg.) you can increase the usual dosage  by 50%, your new dosage would then be: 3/4 tsp. – 1.5 tsp. (6-12 capsules) taken 2-3 times daily.

If you are lighter than 90 pounds (40 kg.) you can decrease the usual dosage by 50%, your new dosage would then be: 1/4 tsp. – 1/2 tsp. (2-4 capsules), taken 2-3 times daily. This would apply to children and animals too. Just keep lowering the dosage consistent with one’s weight.
