PRE-AGED DIT DA JOW (TOPICAL ANALGESIC FORMULAS)

Below are some pointers that will help ensure your dit da jow maintains potency and help you maximize its effectiveness:

  • A fine herbal sediment should be visible on the bottom of your bottle of dit da jow. Before each use, make sure to shake up your dit da jow to place this herbal sediment into suspension.
  • Store in a dark place at room temperature. Some ingredients can break down with excessive exposure to UV light or extreme temperatures. Shake before use.
  • Use your dropper to liberally apply jow into your palm. Place your palm over the desired area and massage the liquid into the skin. New injury favors light consistent massage. Old injuries respond favorably with a deeper, harder massage. Repeat 2-3 times daily for best results.
  • For conditioning such as athletic training, impact training, iron palm or limb knocking, applying before *and* after your workout can help stop bruising from occurring. To safely perform iron palm exercises, please use Plum Dragon’s Iron Palm dit da jow formulas.
  • Use your dit da jow to help aid in the recovery of bone, muscle, and tissue bruises, soreness, joint and tendon pain/swelling, muscle spasms, relief of pain and inflammation, and in the healing process and immune system response of bone, muscle, joints, and tendon.
  • Dit da jow is for EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Do NOT apply dit da jow to any mucous membrane such as the mouth, ears, or nose. Do NOT apply to cuts or scrapes. Do NOT use this product of you are pregnant or nursing.

EXTERNAL PLUM DRAGON DIT DA JOW HERB PACKS

Download PDF instructions for 1-Gal Herb Packs here, and 1/2-Gal Herb Packs here

Below are directions for brewing your dit da jow herb pack at home, as well as some pointers for best practices for optimal results:

  • Open bag and empty the herbs into a 1-gallon (or larger) GLASS container.  Plum Dragon’s herb packs come pre-prepared—necessary grinding, crushing, processing, frying, etc. is already done for you. Feel free to break the herbs up further, but NEVER powder the herbs beyond the state they are in.
  • Fill your container with vodka, rum, brandy, rice wine, or a 50/50 mix of Everclear and spring water.
  • Store the container in a dark place at room temperature as some ingredients can break down with excessive exposure to light or extreme temperatures.  Shake your jar occasionally.
  • The herbs will have soaked up some of the liquid after approximately 24 hours and the level of liquid will be lower.  Feel free to top off your 1-gallon jar with either alcohol or spring water and reseal.
  • You should allow a minimum of 3 months for the aging process, and we recommend at least 6 months to reach full medicinal potency.  We also recommend that you do not strain off the herbs at that time, but leave them in the jar with the remaining liquid to continue aging until all the liquid has been used.
  • After aging, liberally apply the dit da jow jow into your palm (you may wish to purchase a dropper bottle to use to dispense the liniment or to carry with you).
  • Dit da jow is for EXTERNAL USE ONLY. Do NOT apply dit da jow to any mucous membrane such as the mouth, ears, or nose. Do NOT apply to cuts or scrapes. Do NOT use this product of you are pregnant or nursing.

INTERNAL TONIC HERB PACKS & CHUN JIU (SPRING WINE)

Download PDF instructions here

Below are directions for brewing your internal tonic or spring wine herb packs, as well as some pointers for best practices for optimal results:

  • Open bag and empty the herbs into a 1-gallon (or larger) GLASS container.  Plum Dragon’s herb packs come pre-prepared—all necessary grinding, crushing, processing, frying, etc. is already done for you.  Internal tonics should come to you in a roughly ground state.
  • Fill your container with vodka, whisky, brandy, rice wine, or a 50/50 mix of everclear and spring water. We prefer making this wine with slightly lower alcohol content than dit da jow, so feel free to cut your alcohol between 30-40%.
  • Store the container in a dark place at room temperature as some ingredients can break down with excessive exposure to light or extreme temperatures.  Shake your jar occasionally.
  • The herbs will have soaked up some of the liquid after approximately 24 hours, and the level of the liquid will be lower.  Feel free to top off your 1-gallon jar with spring water and reseal.
  • You should allow a very minimum of 3 months for the aging process—traditionally, these tonics are made one year and consumer the next.  We also recommend that you do not strain off the herbs at that time, but leave them in the jar to continue aging with the rest of the liquid until it is all consumed.
  • Internal tonics are traditionally consumed in 1 oz. quantities on cool evenings, or, alternatively, every evening during intense training.  Some people like to take Spring Wine every day, all year, while others prefer to take it a few times per week only during the Spring months.  With use, you can determine what is best for you and your body.
  • If you are sick (viral or bacterial infections such as flu, common cold, strep, etc.) do not use internal tonics until you are healthy again.  Pregnant and nursing women should not use these products.
  • We make no claims about these products’ potential interactions with medications or with diet and recommend you seek the advise of a qualified medical practitioner if you have any questions relating to these types of interactions. Please see conditions of use.

PLUM DRAGON CHAI TRAINING TEA

Download PDF instructions here

The tea should be placed in a small amount of water (the herbs in the Plum Dragon Chai Training Tea Kit are already crushed/ground for you). This water should make up half of the volume of total tea. Bring to a near-boil, and then simmer for 10 minutes.  Add an equal amount of milk and allow to re-simmer. Add tea leaves and allow to steam for another 5 minutes.  Strain off the herbs, and add a small amount of vanilla and honey to taste.

This tea tastes wonderful and has an almost numbing property, making it great for sore throat due to cold invasion (note: Do *NOT* use this tea for sore throat due to heat conditions such as strep throat or flu).

Adding Hong Hua to this recipe is a good addition for many reasons, but it will disrupt the flavor of the tea. Try it both ways and decide which you like best. A pinch of pepper is common in commercial mixtures of Chai Tea, as are small amounts of Star Anise, citrus, and other spicy items. Lastly, a couple of pods of Bai Dou Kou have been helpful for some students who have been bogged down in the heat by heavy tonics such as Spring Wine.

POWDERED CHINESE HERB FORMULAS

Short-lived but intense issues: 1 teaspoon (8 capsules), three times daily.

Lingering low-grade concerns: 1/2 teaspoon (4 capsules), 2 times daily.

The above guidelines represent the usual doses. If you don’t much care for reading or thinking too much about it, you’re done. If you want to fine tune things a bit, keep reading.

If you are very sensitive to medicines: start out low (1/4 tsp or 2 capsules) once per day, and raise the dosage each day. When you get to the point where your concerns are being addressed, you’re good, you don’t have to go any higher than that. This advice is especially useful for those who are taking herbs for something that is induced or aggravated by stress.

If you are heavier than 200 pounds (90 kg.) you can increase the usual dosage by 50%, your new dosage would then be: 3/4 tsp. – 1.5 tsp. (6-12 capsules) taken 2-3 times daily.

If you are lighter than 90 pounds (40 kg.) you can decrease the usual dosage by 50%, your new dosage would then be: 1/4 tsp. – 1/2 tsp. (2-4 capsules), taken 2-3 times daily. This would apply to children and animals too. Just keep lowering the dosage consistent with one’s weight.
