Welcome to the Plum Dragon Herbs Dit Da Jow Recipe Compendium. Below are powerful dit da jow ingredients, dit da wan, and iron palm recipes for martial artists and athletes. For those not wanting pre-made dit da jow or pre-made herb packs, we offer this resource of ingredients and recipes.
While we don't endorse all these recipes, we're happy to provide the herbal ingredients to try whichever formula you'd like. Each formula below is standardized to make 1 gallon of dit da jow. Any linked ingredient is a herb we carry in our store.
A note on amounts marked Est. — the first ingredient amount for some formulas was lost during a site migration. Where that has occurred we have provided our best estimate based on historical sources and traditional formula ratios, clearly flagged so you know which to verify.
"When there is free flow, there is no pain. When there is no flow, pain follows."The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine · ~2,000 years ago
Dit da jow formulas have been passed down through martial arts traditions for centuries, often shared between teachers and students as living knowledge — practical tools for training, recovery, and longevity. We've gathered these formulas here out of respect for that tradition, and with the hope that making this knowledge more widely available will help ensure it continues to be used, valued, and handed down to many more generations of practitioners to come.
Want to make your own?

How to Make Dit Da Jow
The traditional preparation method is straightforward. What follows is the same process used for centuries, with modern guidance on materials and technique.
Gather your materials
You need a large glass jar (5 liters is ideal), two 1.75-liter bottles of 80-proof vodka, and your herb kit. Glass is non-negotiable — plastic leaches chemicals into the liniment over time.
Add the herbs
Transfer the herb kit into the jar. Quality kits come with herbs at the correct consistency — some whole, some bruised, some partially ground. This variety is intentional. Avoid kits where everything is fully powdered, which impedes extraction.
Pour in the vodka
Add both bottles until herbs are fully submerged, leaving 2–3 inches of headroom. Any 80-proof vodka works; brand doesn't matter.
Seal & shake daily
Shake vigorously for 1–2 minutes each day for the first 3–4 weeks. This maceration process draws active compounds from the herbs into the liquid. After the first month, a few times per week is sufficient.
Store away from light
Keep the jar in a cool, dark cabinet or closet. Direct sunlight significantly degrades potency.
First use at 3–4 weeks · Full potency at 6 months+
Your liniment will have meaningful efficacy within 3–4 weeks. It reaches full traditional strength at 6 months — the minimum threshold recommended for optimal results. The longer it ages, the more potent it becomes.
The Complete Starter Bundle — Jug & Jow
Choose your formula from the dropdown below, add to cart, and receive your pre-measured herb kit plus a 1-gallon glass brewing jar — everything you need in a single order. Just add vodka and wait.
